Our Thanksgiving (+ Black Friday)

Thanksgiving 2012This year was our second year hosting Thanksgiving. Let me just squeeze in here that I am a terrible host. When I go over to peoples houses I don't expect them to hover over me asking me if I need a drink constantly or anything like that so I'm naturally just laid back when people are at my house. Thanksgiving this year was a small, quiet get together of my family + Blaine's family. My mother in law took care of a lot of the cooking (thank god I didn't have to cook a turkey), I made some rolls from scratch, my sister made mashed potatoes and a yummy desssert and my sister in law made a chocolate pumpkin pie.

Everything was delicious, our tofurky wasn't a bust this year (thank you, gardein! the tofurky brand failed us the last 2 years). We all pretty much hung out and talked the whole day. I spent a good chunk of it drooling over the black friday ads. It's nice having everyone together at our house and I'm glad we now have a place do holiday's like this. Times seem to be changing as we drift from the holidays I've been used to for the last 25 years with my moms entire huge, loud, crazy family and we're seem to be starting to branch off. It makes me sad, but change happens. That's life right? It doesn't help that we decided to move about 100 miles away from everyone. But enough sadness about the change. We have so much to be thankful about and I'm glad we got to be with family on that holiday.

After dinner was served, dessert was served and we all spend several hours with each other everyone went home leaving Blaine, Lauren, Blaine's mom Dianna and I to head to bed. Blaine, Lauren and I then got up at 4am to head down the Bakersfield for some black friday shopping. It's become sort of a tradition for probably at least the last five years now. Of course, I don't think we bought any gifts. Well - I got some clothes for Blaine, but he was there. Crossing my fingers he forgets by Christmas. I got a bunch of tops and dresses plus we bought some pillows, yarn and a steam mop I'd been eyeing for a while that was $50 off. After Black Friday shopping, we went home, switched cars and headed to the race track where Blaine raced for several hours. By 4pm when the races were over we had been up and all over the place for 12 hours so we headed home and went to sleep. All in all, it was a good couple of days! How was your Thanksgiving?
