I’m finally going wedding dress shopping this weekend accompanied by my mom. I wish my little sister were here to help me pick out a dress too, but sadly she’s not coming to visit until early October. I’m going to make the best of it, though. The dress above is the one that I’m in love with, available here. However, I don’t really want to buy one online since it will most likely look totally different on me so it’s hard to tell if I’d like it.
My wedding dress shopping is not going to be that of your average bride. I will be dress shopping in the Fashion District in LA. There’s nothing glamorous about the fashion district, but I just love it there. It’s a little different from I remember it being like when I was little. There’s a lot less price haggling going on which is sad. That was the best part, watching my mom bargain for a good price on all the stuff we bought and walking away and going to the next store if we didn’t like their prices. It’s been the source of a lot of good girl time between my mom, sister and I since we were kids.
However, the prices are still great and it’s still fun because there are hundreds of stores with everything you can imagine. This is where I got my prom dress and my sister got her wedding dress for her small wedding back in November (above). The prices are generally amazing and I’m going to be completely honest (and hope to not offend anyone), but I am not going to spend thousands of dollars on a dress I am going to wear once. I am also under no delusion that some day my daughter will want my dress. She might, but I’m not going to bet on it.
Our wedding will be amazing whether my dress costs $200 or $3000 and I am so happy that I realize that because I can see how easy it is for people to throw themselves into debt for their big day. It is a big day, but luckily Blaine and I are comfortable in realizing it’s a big day because we are getting married, not because of the extravagant party that comes with it.
So here I go, hoping to find a dress in crowded, hot, smelly fashion district. It’s a unique experience that I am definitely going to embrace and remember.
