Breakfast has always been weird for me. When I was younger I used to eat cereal everyday unless my mom made something or we went out to eat. But as I’ve gotten older, cereal has lost a lot of it’s everyday appeal and I crave it more as a late night snack/dessert rather than in the morning. I just always feel confused about breakfast. Especially since so many people just LOVE breakfast food. I just don’t get it. I have cereal a couple of times a week because it’s easy and fast. But I got into this mode of wanting “real” food several years ago. Waffles, pancakes, etc are just too sweet and leave me wanting something not sweet. So for a couple of years I used to have an egg, a piece of toast and usually some fruit several days a week.
Then we got chickens. And now eggs freak me out. I’ll eat small bites of it occasionally, but for some reason I just cannot stomach eggs from my own chickens. If I make something with eggs (like a cake) that’s totally fine, but it’s just full flavor straight egg from our chickens that just makes me shudder. I don’t know what it is and I understand that there is no logic at all to it. Luckily Blaine still loves eggs so they aren’t going to waste.
So when I’m not having cereal I’m usually forcing down steel cut oats that I don’t generally enjoy, but eat because it’s healthy. Or I end up having lunch/dinner left overs. It feels so weird because there are specific “breakfast foods” and suddenly I am enjoying a veggie spring roll with peanut sauce and grapes for breakfast. And it’s more delicious than any breakfast food I can think of. Except maybe bagels. I love bagels, but rarely buy them because I will literally eat them all day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Am I the only one with this weird dislike of breakfast food? I get the feeling that I might be.
Hi Aileen!I just found your blog and love it!I have had chickens most of my life and they are like my best friends. Eating their eggs doesn’t bother me, but I grew up eating them so I guess it makes sense.
I’m now your newest follower!

Thanks for stopping by, Yolanda! I know it’s pretty weird that I can’t bring myself to eat their eggs. Everyone teases me because that’s the reason we got chickens in the first place haha. Thanks for following!! 🙂
I have a similar issue! I’m a vegetarian and if I think too much about eggs…I can’t eat them. I do better with eggs from my own chickens, but sometimes I take one bite, remember what I’m eating and can’t finish it. No idea why!
That’s exactly it. There have been a few times where I could stop thinking about it long enough to take a bite or two, but after that it’s all over and I’m done.
