The thing I struggle with the most living where we live is loneliness and feeling like I’m missing out on fun with friends. This weekend was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Saturday started out with a baby shower for a friend from middle/high school. We aren’t all that close anymore, but she’s the first of my circle of friends from school to get pregnant, so it’s exciting! She lives in another state so I hadn’t seen her in years. It was nice to catch up and so weird to think that we’re old enough to be living on our own and married, how are we old enough to be parents? Her shower was a “mommy to bee” theme and they had the cutest (and most delicious) bee cookies. The whole thing was adorable and I’m so happy for her!
After Meg’s baby shower I decided to over to Kim, my besties, house. She had been planning a wine tasting party for weeks and I decided to show up early and help her set up. When Kim throws a party she throws a party. Me? I’m like here’s some pizza and drinks, figure it out. Her? Tables full of finger foods, wine, spiked lemonade. It ended up being much more fun than a wine tasting party sounds and I got so see sooo many familiar faces that I haven’t seen in forever. I’ve known some of these people for over 20 years so it was so much fun to drink, catch up and laugh until our bellies hurt and tears were streaming down our faces (ahem, mostly just Leslie’s). Afterwards I spent the night and we woke up, watched almost a dozen episodes of Melissa & Joey on netflix (he wears a lot of purple in that show) and made macarons until it was time to meet my parents for dinner and head home.
It’s weekends like that when come home feeling totally refreshed. I’m going to get nerdy here, but if you play the sims it’s like my “social” bar gets filled up and I’m good for a little bit being stuck here with just Blaine and I. I’m hoping we can have get togethers like that more often. My plan is to invite all our friends over to hang out for the weekend soon. Most haven’t even seen this house even though we’ve been here for almost two years.
Good times with old friends. What more could I ask for? Life is good.
