I’m already loving the cooler weather. Luckily the freezing weather I posted about in my Letter to Fall post warmed up a little so we can enjoy the cool, but not cold weather for a little bit. October is one of my favorite months. It’s when it really starts to feel like fall and of course it’s our anniversary month so for years now we’ve been taking vacations in October.
Plans
We’re going on our 2 year wedding anniversary trip mid-October and I’m so excited! We’ll be gone for 9 days and we’ll be taking a road trip up to Oregon and back. We might or might not make it up to Washington and the fun part is we’re being totally spontaneous with it and haven’t booked any rooms or made any specific plans yet. Our “plan” (or lack of plan) is to just drive and find hotels as we go along so we’re not forced to leave a town we want to stay in for a few days or stuck in a place we aren’t that excited about. We’ve never done a trip like this before and we’ve never done a real road trip so we’re both really excited to leave at the end of next week. Luckily we have our regular pet sitter and Blaine’s mom splitting the 9 days so the animals will be taken care of, that’s always a challenge when you have a mini zoo like we do!
Goals
Keep a schedule! Working from home means I can pretty much do what I want, when I want. If I want to sit and catch up on Teen Mom all day and then work from 9pm through the wee hours of the morning, that’s technically just fine. But lately I’ve been mixing work in with getting distracted all day and it’s interfering with my productivity so I thought I’d try a real schedule. Last week I created a weekly schedule for myself and my goal for October is to stick with it to the best of my ability. In the schedule which covers from 8 am to 5:30 pm I included dedicated work time, my 2x a week pilates, 2x a week volunteer time at Marley’s Mutts, dog grooming every other tuesday and I even put dog walks on the schedule everyday to see if it would help me get out and walk them more. Since we’ll be gone for over a week, I figured this would be a good time for me to try it out since I really only have about 3 weeks I need to try and stick with it. The point is to keep me focused so I can work efficiently and get stuff done instead of just half working all the time.
What are you most excited about this month? Do you have any goals or plans? Have you done a road trip up the Pacific Coast? I’d love to hear suggestions on what to check out!
If you’re sticking to the coast, I remember Long Beach, WA (right on the border of Oregon and Washington) was pretty cool. If you come inland at all, make sure you stop by our place! 😀 Also, Multnomah Falls right outside of Portland looks pretty awesome (according to my Pinterest pins 😛 ). It’s starting to get chilly here, so bring a sweater! Also, a place that has been recommended to me is Piedras Blancas, a few miles north of Hearst Castle. There are always a bunch of elephant seals just hanging out on this little beach off Highway 1. Visit it and tell me if it’s worth seeing 😉
I love the idea of a spontaneous, no-plans trip. We haven’t really done a trip like that, and the idea of it is very appealing, especially after traveling so much last year, and being stuck in places that didn’t wow us and not having enough time in places that did. Props to you! It will be so fun for you guys!
Woo thanks for the tips, I’m going to do research on those places and maybe stop by a few of them!I’ve been to the place with the elephant seals! It’s always FREEZING AND WINDY, but so cool, you should definitely check it out!
