The Saturday before Thanksgiving we were excited to invite all of our friends up for a Friendsgiving feast! Since we live about 100 miles away from everyone we figured it’d be a great way to have everyone come visit. Kim came up to help prepare aka be my chef. She brought a chili rubbed turkey for our “Turkey Taco Thanksgiving” theme. On top of that she brought a lot of other stuff and helped a ton in the kitchen. What would I do without her? We’re such opposites which is hilarious because we’ve been friends since Kindergarten. She’s such a worrier/planner and while I like to plan, I usually procrastinate and then wing it without stressing too much.
A few of our friends brought their dogs since they couldn’t leave them for too long and let’s just say I had to jump out the kitchen window, barefoot to save our rooster when one of the dogs (the huge one, of course) busted through the fence into the chicken run. I made it, he’s fine, and everyone made fun of me for jumping out the window barefoot. Meanwhile the men ran out the door and around the house, but I had the situation under control by the time they got there. Last time I had to move quickly to save the rooster I fell down the stairs and twisted my ankle. The things I do for a thankless rooster that attacks us, right?
The food was all delicious and one of my friends, who is vegan, was nice enough to stop at Trader Joes and pick up some vegan roasts for us to enjoy since a few of us don’t eat meat. We had the usual Thanksgiving feast, plus all the extras for tacos: tortillas, cheese, salsa, sour cream, etc.
Afterwards we played a little Rap Star, and by we I mean half of us, drank a little (we have so much booze left!) and then everyone left early since they all had a long drive back. We all decided Friendsgiving should definitely be an annual tradition and I’m so happy we have such great friends!
On actual Thanksgiving Blaine and I decided to host last minute since neither one of our parents had plans. My mom actually made it this year instead of working so we had my parents, Blaine’s parents and a friend of Blaine’s moms. Blaine’s mom made the turkey and a bunch of other food while I pretty much just handed the mashed potatoes. We got to hang out, look at the Black Friday ads, eat yummy food and just talk for several hours.
After we all ate and everyone left Blaine and I decided to drive down to Bakersfield for Black Friday. We were out for maybe two hours and literally left with nothing but bellies full of Sbarro pizza from the food court. We honestly didn’t need anything, but just like doing the whole Black Friday thing in general so we went to check it out.
Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!
